摘要: The pathomorphological features noted in 47 cases of HIV/AIDS studied on autopsy (39 cases) and surgical biopsy material (8 over a period 8.5 years are described here. serum samples all 26/29 CSF tested were positive for anti HIV antibodies. Majority patients young adult males the age group 25-35 years. History high risk behaviour was available 59.6% cases. 38/39 autopsied succumbed to various opportunistic infections. Infection by single pathogen 76.3% due multiple infectious agents 23.7%. commonest infection cryptococcosis (59%) followed toxoplasma encephalities (28.2%) tuberculous meningitis (25.6%). others included meningococcal meningitis, herpes simplex, cytomegalovirus acanthamoeba encephalitis one case each. Features leucoencephalitis tow brain specimens. Complete body necropsy carried out 11/39 revealed disseminated 5, tuberculosis 4 related changes lymphoreticular organs 3 Pneumocystis carinil pneumonia 2 along with cryptococcosis.
