摘要: Precursory signals in sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTAs) associated with summer precipitation over the Southwest (SW) United States are examined using data from 1900 to 1996. Two patterns of SSTAs found influence and winter evolution. One pattern shows positive extending central Pacific west coast Americas during winter. Warm equatorial wet conditions SW dry Northwest. The following summer, diminish, but remain tropical eastern vicinity Central America. SSTs conducive enhanced rising motion convection. A compensating downward branch is favoring that area. Negative have opposite effect. This mode similar SSTA discussed by Higgins et al. When this active, a (dry) followed (wet) summer. In addition Pacific, another controlling factor North Pacific. (positive) persist favor (negative) rainfall SW. persists authors conclude evolution modulated both alone not sufficient explain observed variability southwest States.
