摘要: The search for new groundwater resources is essential to sustained economic development in arid environment. study area part of Ponnaiyar river basin falling between N latitude 12°48’24” to 13°07’06’ and E longitude 77°50’30” 78°08’15” falls Survey India toposheets 57 G/16, H/13, 57 K/4 L/1 covering an 645 km2 Kolar District, which highly drought prone Karnataka State, India. In the present paper, by a methodological approach based on remote sensing GIS, drainage and hydrogeomorphological maps were prepared using IRS-1 C & 1 D LISS-III PAN merged satellite data geomorphic units. Denudational hill, residual inselberg, pediment inselberg complex, pediment, shallow weathered pediplain, moderately pediplain valley fill shallow identified. area is characterised undulating terrain interspersed low ranges rocky hills. elevation from 860 m 1127 above MSL. mean annual rainfall Malur 722.0mm. River Dhakshina Pinakini and Markarda Halla drain area. streams exhibit dendritic sub type drainage pattern and comprise granite gneissic rock formations Achaean age. On basis different geomorphic units, four categories potential zones delineated as (i) very good (ii) to moderate (iii) moderate poor, (iv) poor poor.
