摘要: Are the U.S. textile and apparel industries examples of creative destruction or are they just plain destructing? We investigate this question using both aggregate industry-level data plant-level from Census' LRD. find that while aggregate-level evidence is consistent with common view these as declining industries, support a very different much more hopeful view. in face intensified international competition, each industry has evolved its own way. In textiles, there been tremendous capitalization. apparel, organization production changed. cases, productivity increased markedly, mostly because individual plants becoming productive.
