摘要: The use of remote, baited ‘video fishing’ techniques offer standardised, non-extractive methodologies for estimating relative abundance a range marine vertebrates and invertebrates, with the option very precise accurate length biomass estimates when stereo-camera pairs are used. They have also been used to monitor fate bycatch discards other food falls, help measure metabolic rates, swimming speed foraging behaviour abyssal scavengers. This paper gives brief overview general methodology, benefits limitations technique. We conclude that video afford only sampling some situations, but more often can complement traditional methods enhance scope capability monitoring stock assessment programs. Major advances will be made models developed shallow waters estimate absolute density target species by accounting area in bait plume. Cheaper, better smaller camera, lighting deployment systems inevitable, focussed research development is needed overcome bottlenecks data acquisition from tapes through incremental automation.
