Metaplastic carcinoma of the breast, an unusual disease with worse prognosis: the experience of the European Institute of Oncology and review of the literature.

摘要: Background Metaplastic carcinoma of the breast is a rare form cancer and has an uncertain prognostic significance. The purpose present study was to compare clinical course, prognosis, between this type tumor poorly differentiated ductal carcinoma. Patients methods We analyzed 37 cases metaplastic treated at our institution (European Institute Oncology in Milan, Italy) 1997 2004, comparing them with 72 (control group) All 109 patients had negative receptors were G3 final histology. control matched according year surgery, pT (pT1 vs. pT2/ 3/4), pN (absent present). Results Of patients, eleven died from disease progression, eight developed metastatic two experienced local recurrence. In group (72 patients) we observed three deaths due 13 distant metastases, recurrences. Conclusion overall survival significantly worse than group. As regards disease-free survival, there no statistically significant difference groups.
