摘要: Glacier valleys across the Transantarctic Mountains are not properly taken into account in climate models, because of their coarse resolution. Nonetheless, glacier control katabatic winds this region, and latter thought to affect Ross Sea sector, frsater formation snow mass balance. The purpose paper is investigate role production turbulent kinetic energy by subgrid-scale orography using a 20-km atmospheric regional model. A classical orographic roughness length parametrization modified produce either smooth or rough valleys. one-year simulation shows that strongly improved rather than Pressure temperature fields affected representation roughness, specifically over Ice Shelf. escarpment regions better agreement with automatic weather station observations representation. This work stresses need improve simulate realistic flows. also provides way improving surface an model without increasing its
