摘要: In New Zealand, around half of the lowland water bodies do not meet quality standards, primarily due to widespread changes in land use. Riparian restoration has been occurring Zealand for over 30 years an effort minimize this impact, however, little monitoring effectiveness undertaken. This study evaluated impact riparian plantings on streams Lake Ellesmere catchment. A paired-catchment design four river reaches was used compare restored buffers with control sites upstream. Chemical sampling conjunction a macroinvertebrate community assessment. Equivocal benefits were observed, improvements some variables but others. had positive effect terms increasing dissolved oxygen and decreasing turbidity. However, conductivity increased at planted no observed other variables. These findings may be affected by insufficient width all buffers, gaps buffer system contributing poor quality. Although variable responses seen invertebrate composition, research suggests that even narrow strips effective improving parameters. The overall mixed results present fair assessment expected within relatively short time following vegetation establishment. Even when baseline data have established prior restoration, showed can demonstrate restoration.
