摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter reviews how particle scavenging and ocean circulation control the vertical profiles lateral transport of 230Th 231Pa in water column, principles, underlying assumptions, advantages limitations involved three paleoceanographic applications that are: (1) normalization to scavenged 230 Th concentration marine sediment estimate past variations rain rate sedimentary constituents, (2) 231 Pa/ inform on changes rates, (3) sediments constrain Atlantic meridional overturning (MOC). The also provides a few examples records illustrate merit these approaches. As result its very short residence time quasi constant flux tracer which can be used preserved particles seafloor during last several hundred thousand years. Changes reflect different processes depending geographic location. application may ultimately develop as powerful synoptic tool reconstruct field or opal/carbonate ratio, but further progress direction needs additional column modeling studies clearly identify quantify boundary scavenging.
