摘要: The ratio of unsupported protactinium-231 to thorium-230 in marine sediments, (Pa/Th)xs, is potentially sensitive several processes oceanographic and climatological interest: deep ocean circulation, biological productivity (as it relates total particle flux) composition (specifically, biogenic opal authigenic Mn). In order attribute variations (Pa/Th)xs observed sediment records changes specific through time, a better understanding the chemical cycling these elements modern necessary. To this end, survey was undertaken surface sediments from subarctic Pacific (SO202-INOPEX expedition) combination with Pacific-wide compilation published data. Throughout Pacific, robustly correlated content sediments. North equatorial simultaneous positive correlations indicators suggest that boundary scavenging combine enhance removal Pa eastern Pacific. Deep water mass ageing (>3.5 km>3.5 km) associated overturning appears play secondary role determining basin scale distribution (Pa/Th)xs. A basin-wide extrapolation performed which suggests budget nearly balance. We hypothesize time distributions could define evolving boundaries contrasting biogeographic provinces while influence hydrothermal confounds approach South
