Indigenous vocational education and training: at a glance

摘要: This publication presents the results of a comprehensive research program on Indigenous Australians in vocational education and training (VET), along with feedback from over 200 people who attended National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) Forum VET August 2005. During forum, four original objectives ‘Partners learning culture: national Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander strategy 2000-2005’ (indexed at TD/TNC 63.292) around which is structured, were addressed. These are: (1) involvement participation decision making; (2) participation, retention achievement VET; (3) culturally appropriate flexible delivery; (4) links between VET, industry employment. The survey found that students undertake many reasons. main reasons are to improve knowledge get job. Other include confidence, help community or skills community/voluntary work. Young work purposes attain qualification. Women older most concerned personal self-esteem. People very remote areas more often had related doing training. views participants forum support findings. There strong sense want focus holistic outcomes VET. Self-esteem, achievement, paid employment, employability skills, including literacy, information technology, leadership business all seen as important.
