摘要: Abstract: The NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) differencing method using Landsat Thematic Mapping images was implemented to assess natural expansion of forests in the Basilicata region (southern Italy) for period 1984 through 2010. Two TM (Thematic Mapper) (1984-2010) were georeferenced and geographically corrected first order polynomial transformation, nearest neighbour resampling. radiometrically dark object subtraction model. pre-processed used calculate NDVI, subsequently differencing. Finally, a threshold vegetation change detection identified by visual analysis RGB band composition, ratios comparison digital aerial orthophotos. methodology validated ground-truth observations over study area. applied showed 91.8% accuracy forest expansion. During examined period, total regional cover increased 19.7% (70154 ha), consistent with National Forest Inventory data (1984-2005). observed also relationship landscape physical characteristics distribution types region. Surprisingly, considerable occurred on degraded soils drought-prone Mediterranean areas.
