摘要: Sleep-wake cycles and other night-time behaviours were observed in 24 domestic dogs (Canis familiaris) living various urban habitats. Recordings of 18 these animals made with a video camera under red light. On average, had 23 sleep-wake episodes during 8 h. The consisted an average 16 min asleep 5 awake. All seen quiet sleep most also active sleep. Usually was followed immediately by spontaneous arousal. As reported humans cats, suppressed for night dog placed new habitat, then it occurred the following 2 nights. 31 occasions when two or more sleeping together, they non-synchronous cycles, waking only synchronising response to strong stimulus. Barking 13 video-recorded six barked than five times Nine 14 owners unwittingly disrupted their dogs. pattern quite different from that known occur humans. These patterns sometimes led being nuisance people neighbourhood, but welcomed who kept protection as well companionship.
