摘要: The Pyrenean desman (Galemys pyrenaicus) is a small semi-aquatic mammal endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. species has recently experienced strong decline and some of its populations are severely threatened with extinction. To help in preservation this species, it critical understand genetic structure main evolutionary units, as these may have specific local adaptations could be great conservation value. Sequencing reduced representation libraries (ddRAD) from 26 specimens selected across entire range, we obtained around 45,000 loci per specimen 1185 single nucleotide polymorphisms. Heterozygosity varied substantially among individuals different areas. Interestingly, southeastern Pyrenees had lowest proportions heterozygous positions inferred genome-wide data mammals so far. In addition, estimated tree reflecting genomic divergence, performed principal component analysis, carried out Bayesian analysis population structure. Combined evidence supported existence five distinct clusters largely coincident mountain ranges where occurs, few presenting relevant admixture levels. There was good correspondence between mitochondrial lineages detected previous study, yet substantial differences areas demonstrate importance performing reveal whole history. Although further necessary better characterize distribution distinctive geographical revealed by should considered future plans.
