Building capacity for Health Impact Assessment: Training outcomes from the United States

摘要: Abstract Background Despite the continued growth of Health Impact Assessment (HIA) in US, there is little research on HIA capacity-building. A comprehensive study longer-term training outcomes may reveal opportunities for improving capacity building activities and practice. Methods We conducted in-depth interviews with trainees United States to assess their needs. Using a evaluation framework, we measured across spectrum reaction, learning, behavior results. Results From 2006 2012, four organizations trained over 2200 people at least 75 in-person trainings 29 states. interviewed 48 trainees, selected both randomly purposefully. The mean duration between interview was 3.4 years. Trainees reported that objectives were met, especially when relevant case-studies used. They established new collaborations maintained them. Training appeared catalyze more holistic thinking practice, including range HIA-related activities. Many disseminated what they learned engaged components HIA, even without dedicated funding. Going forward, need assistance quantitative methods, project management, community engagement, framing recommendations, evaluation. Conclusions revealed stakeholders refine coordinate resources, apply competency framework leverage complimentary workforce development efforts, sensitize build communities.
