摘要: Abstract Results from two consecutive generations of testing to evaluate the growth performance eight different strains Nile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ) in eleven farm environments are reported. The include four new recently imported Philippines Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and Senegal; established Asian farmed popularly known as ‘Israel’, ‘Singapore’, ‘Taiwan’ ‘Thailand’ strains. test were chosen cover a wide range Philippine farming systems, simple ponds, used by backyard farmers, more intensive systems: fertilized ponds with on-farm agricultural residues, rice-fish cages, three hatcheries (satellite stations) located regions island Luzon. During first generation trials 1989, individually tagged fingerlings bred founder populations (total 7652) communally reared all for about 90 days. In 1990, second made part complete diallele crossing experiment (8×8 strains). Data on 3420 pure study. results indicated highly significant differences among performances Moreover, exception Ghana strain, newly introduced African wild performed well or better than most widely importance strain×test environment interaction over investigated was low. implications these developing breeding program tilapias discussed.
