Examining the relationship between proactive personality and career success

摘要: With increasing levels of employee autonomy and responsibility in today's workforce, proactive behavior the performance discretionary, extra-role work behaviors are being recognized as vital to effective organizational functioning. This study examined one mechanism that may explain how personality relates career success: through a person's including innovation, contextual performance, citizenship behavior. Data were collected from 302 employees large manufacturing organization Midwestern United States. Hierarchical regression multiple mediation analyses showed relationship between success is at least partially mediated by behaviors, even after controlling for demographic variables (age, sex, Five Factor Model traits). On tree potential mediators, innovation was most prominent factor.
