摘要: Background Everyday language relates depressed mood to visual phenomena. Previous studies point a reduced sensitivity of subjective contrast perception in patients. One way assess an objective at the level retina is measure pattern electroretinogram (PERG). To find correlate perception, we measured PERG healthy control subjects and unmedicated medicated patients with depression. Methods Forty diagnosis major depression (20 20 without medication) 40 matched were studied. Visual PERGs recorded from both eyes. Results Unmedicated displayed dramatically lower retinal gain. We found strong significant correlation between gain severity This marker distinguishes most on single-case basis subjects. A receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed specificity 92.5% 77.5% for classifying participants correctly. Conclusions Because recording does not depend ratings, this may be human beings. If replicated, helpful further animal research
