Factors Underlying Unmet Need for Family Planning in the Philippines

摘要: The prevalence of unmet need for family planning is a primary justification programs, but the causes have not been much explored. This article investigates four explanations need: (1) as an artifact inaccurate measurement fertility preferences and contraceptive practice; (2) reflection weakly held preferences; (3) result women's perceiving themselves to be at low risk conceiving; (4) due excessive costs contraception. are examined using quantitative qualitative data collected in 1993 from currently married women their husbands two provinces Philippines. results indicate that preference-behavior discrepancy commonly termed "unmet need" survey measurement. most important factors accounting this strength reproductive preferences, husbands' perceived detrimental side effects Inaccessible services appear carry little weight setting. Modification make them more attentive other obstacles use would improve effectiveness reducing need.
