摘要: Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis function, in Brahman heifers of differing temperament, was evaluated using separate challenges with CRH and ACTH. Exit velocity (EV) measurement used to classify heifer temperament as calm [C; consisted 6 slowest (EV=1.05+/-0.05 m/s)] or temperamental [T; fastest (EV=3.14+/-0.22 m/s)]. During the h prior challenge, areas under ACTH (P=0.025) cortisol (P<0.001) curves were greater heifers. Baseline but not (P=0.10) differed between groups. Following (P=0.057) (P<0.01) response animals. The same animals subjected an challenge 14 d following their utilization stimulation experiment. Prior baseline concentrations higher (T=18+/-2.6, C=4.3+/-0.6 ng/mL). administration, area curve (P=0.07) After declining below during post-challenge recovery period, again (P=0.02) than These data demonstrate that cattle excitable exhibit increased stress responsiveness handling, adrenal function basal pituitary a muted pharmacological stimulus. Thus, functional characteristics HPA vary animal temperament.
