Breast cancer recurrences in elderly patients after lumpectomy

摘要: Approximately half of breast cancers occur in women 65 years or older. Some studies suggest that cancer may be a more indolent disease this group patients. Debate exists over the appropriate treatment these as they are significantly underrepresented research studies. As result comorbid conditions and patient refusal many often treated less aggressively than their younger counterparts. This study investigated recurrence rate elderly patients who had undergone lumpectomy primary at our institution. A chart review was conducted on from January 1, 1995 through September 26, 2000 with performed Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Study criteria included female gender age greater years, first incidence cancer, no evidence distant presentation, availability follow-up assessed by clinical examination mammogram records.
