AWARENESS AND PRACTICES OF EPILEPTIC CARE AMONG SPECIAL EDUCATORS FOR EPILEPSY

摘要: Background: Epilepsy is a common but usually stigmatized disease due to its presentation therefore; the awareness of care givers regarding epilepsy crucial for better management and upbringing child. This study aims assess degree apprehension among special educators, as more prevalent in children. Method: A cross-sectional using questionnaire, based on interviews by 56 participants from numerous schools Karachi was conducted. Results: All educators knew about through their relevant courses. 85.7% them dealt with epileptic person directly during practice. They explained attack period seizure (71.5%), loss consciousness (64.3%), memory (35.7%). 57.1% perceived causes be inherited, oxygen deficiency birth46.4%, birth defect46.4%, stroke 42.9% 39.3% believe brain tumor can cause. Perceived triggers were (71.4%) emotional disturbance, (67.9%) stress, (53.6%) sleep deprivation (60%) skipping medicine. Unfortunately, 7% consider contagious disease. 11% thinks some kind spiritual possession or black magic. 30% stated that epileptics should treated Hakims while 25% believes quacks cure it. Conclusion: Overall knowledge adequate attitude positive toward children. Favorably, 70 80% supported idea people get good education take up job even marry have family life.
