摘要: ABSTRACT: Habitat use by small mammals at Parque Estadual da FonteGrande, Vitoria, Espirito Santo, Brazil. Studies on mammalcommunities are important in elaborating management plans for protected areas, because members of this group play diverse ecological roles. Indeed, it is possibleto assume that sympatric species the habitat and its resources differentways considering vast plasticity among these animals. The aimof study was to investigate patterns horizontal vertical useby mammal community Fonte Grande. Thepark located within urban area Vitoria city (state Santo,Brazil). park (218 ha) originally covered Atlantic forest, but itis now dominated secondary forest under strong human pressure. From August 2004 March 2005, we carried out five trapping sessions, accomplishing a effort 5,724 trap-nights. We established 15 transectswith traps placed both ground understory. obtained datafor 16 variables each station categories were inferredthrough principal component analysis. trapped 84 animals, four ofmarsupials three rodents. None analyzed showed statisticallysignificant preference any category.
