摘要: Abstract The use of Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) data to map fishing activity is challenged by the mismatch between temporal resolution position records (typically 2 h) and time scale in fisheries with short trips operations such as purse seining for small pelagics. We analysed first five years VMS logbook Portuguese seine fleet, when 10 min were available, evaluate bias errors sets’ identification related mismatch. adapted standardised analysis workflow EU fleets characteristics fishery developed a framework quantify different VMS-based products, resampling dataset at 20, 30, 60 min 2 h intervals. For fishery, interval resulted 42% missed compared towards longer trips. that correctly identified resampled dataset, 7% sets missing locations an error approximately 2.36 km. general spatial patterns – i.e. grounds not significantly altered decrease resolution. Our applicable other could become useful tool managers using data.
