摘要: Summary The root extract of Tinospora cordifolia (TCE) is a unique drug used in Indian systems medicine for several diseases and as vitalizer. Looking at its sundry applications, hydro alcoholic was examined radio protective potential against gamma radiation Swiss albino mice. Animals were divided into two groups irradiated, with or without TCE extracts, given orally 25, 50, 100, 125, 250, 500, 750, 1000 2000 mg.kg.b.wt./day before irradiation. acute toxicity studies showed that the non5toxic up to dose 2500 mg.kg.b.wt./day. Administration resulted dose5dependent decline induced mortality 75 which highest number survivors (87%) observed. This considered optimum radioprotection further radiomodulatory exposure 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 11Gy radiation. treatment mice reduced severity symptoms sickness all doses, significant increase survival observed compared non5 treated irradiated group. effectively protected gastrointestinal well bone marrow related death, revealed by increased irradiation doses. reduction factor found be 1.68. To understand mechanism action, biochemical parameters lipid peroxidation (LPx) & Glutathione (GSH) content evaluated, indicating afforded may part due scavenging reactive oxygen species ionizing radiation.Irradiation animals an elevation glutathione liver. Conversely, administration caused LPx accompanied incresse GSH concentration.
