摘要: Abstract The overall goal of this report is to improve understanding public responses domestic threats. Project 1 focuses on pandemic influenza and dirty bomb threats, aiming understand the role emotions in anticipated behavioural responses. 2 examines a situation which people are evacuated from community avoid exposure radioactive fallout an upwind nuclear explosion. project aims factors that affect people’s decisions about how long wait until returning their homes, given gradual decline radiation levels resulting decay. First, we present overview each problem, by presenting models summarizing scientific knowledge. use logic influence diagrams (Clemens, 1997; Fischhoff, 2000) with nodes reflecting relevant variables affecting risk, mitigating it, links showing they connected. differ traditional risk models, because include emotional components event unfolds. concern interplay between focusing fear anger. model for concerns health, social, economic may return residual elevate cancer risk. Second, surveys Canadian U.S. participants, based these models. For 1, presented participants scenarios describing risks mitigation strategies radiological dispersion devices. We examined independent relationship anger different scenarios. found that, trait emotions, was related seeing more morbidity mortality, predicting less resilience, compliance strategies, higher likelihood being absent work case influenza. However, showed no significant variables, after controlling emotions. 2, survey stay before fallout-contaminated neighbourhood. those were affected fallout, as well availability free housing evacuation zone. Although rated most important factor (as health household members),other characteristics household, neighbourhood, temporary also relatively important.
