摘要: We have recently described extensive inhibitory interactions between inputs to the ventroposterolateral (VPL) (Roberts and Wells 1990, 1991) ventroposteromedial (VPM) (Salt 1989) portions of ventrobasal nucleus thalamus (VB). wished determine whether (i) inhibition observed in VPL was operating at thalamic level, (ii) dependent on GABA receptors, (iii) demonstrable neurons ventro-posteromedial (iv) operant test responses evoked by natural stimuli. Conditioning stimulation sciatic nerve afferents caused air jet single VB urethane-anaesthetized rats. Both VPM were subject conditioning hindlimb afferents, indicating wide-spread nature process. This reduced iontophoretic application SR95531, a GABAA receptor antagonist. conclude that there is widely distributed system somatic which involves both medial lateral is, least part, mediated receptors. The possible involvement processes intrinsic membrane properties neurones somatotopic plasticity sensory following deafferentation pain discussed.
