EXTERNAL MORPHOLOGY AND PIGMENTATION OF THE VAQUITA, PHOCOENA SINUS (CETACEA: MAMMALIA)

摘要: The vaquita, Phocoena sinus, is a porpoise in the family Phocoenidae that lives only Gulf of California. external appearance P. sinus was unknown until 13 fresh specimens were recently examined. most obvious morphological feature distinguishing from its two congeners proportionately higher dorsal fin. striking features pigmentation pattern are large black eye patches and upper lower lip patches. In both areas, contrasts sharply with surrounding light gray coloration. total lengths ranged 70.3 cm (a neonate) to 143.5 (an adult female).
