摘要: This study examines the relationship between one specific type of avoidant coping behavior-namely, having sex to cope with one's worries or problems-and frequency which 'at risk' women engage in risky sexual relations. Face-to-face interviews were conducted 221 African American drug abusers Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area. The community identification process was used for recruitment, additional recruitment done via targeted sampling. A variety demographic characteristics, background and experiences measures, childhood maltreatment experiences, substance use-related psychosocial attitudinal items, characteristics examined their influence both on engaging extent had cope. Multivariate analysis revealed that a statistically-significant predictor engaged behaviors. separate predictors yielded seven items important understanding coping: age, number health information sources, amount physical abuse, reasons not using condoms, overall attitudes toward condom use, level partner communication, help available from support network. intervention-related implications these findings are discussed, emphasizing needs: target younger women, survivors deal unresolved issues, make condoms more conducive, improve bolster network relationships.
