摘要: Abstract Objective To determine the fatality rate of horses undergoing general anaesthesia at a private equine referral practice using limited number anaesthetic protocols. Methods A retrospective analysis records ( n = 17 961) from all for surgical procedures 1997 to 2001 Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky, USA. Results were reported as percentage population, crude mortality rates each procedure (deaths per 1000). The prevalence fatalities directly related was 0.12% 21) this rose 0.24% 42) with inclusion killed or dying within 7 days post anaesthesia. Causes death cardiac arrest 10), fracture in recovery stall 8), neuropathy myopathy necessitating euthanasia 3). Crude ≤7 deaths 1000 cases, except arthrodesis/osteotomy cases 66.7 cases. Conclusions is lower than has been previously. Clinical relevance Familiarity an protocol combination reduced time, emergencies shorter duration between diagnosis surgery, adequate preoperative examination appear minimize risks associated horses.
