The synergistic effect of funny pictures and etymological elaboration on promoting EFL learners' idiom retention and recall

摘要: In an attempt to facilitate and foster idiom retention recall, this study investigated the effect of pictorial etymological treatments on Iranian undergraduate students’ learning. The paired-samples experimental design was used 26 students who had registered for Use Idioms course at University Bojnord (UB). One hundred target idioms were selected from 50 programs VOA’s Special English (Words their Stories). Half them taught accompanied by funny pictures elaboration other half without any pictures. After treatment, subjects given immediate posttest a delayed one month later. reliability 40-item estimated 0.83 through KR-21 formula. data obtained analyzed using t-test. results analysis indicated that differences between two conditions statistically significant in both posttests. findings imply pictorial-etymological treatment more effective than only.
