摘要: The alga Sargassum muticum (Yendo) Fensholt, a member of the Phaeophyceae, exhibits growth cycle at Bembridge, Isle Wight (UK), in which large annual fronds develop from much smaller perennating structures. Seasonal changes between April 1977 and June 1978 chemical composition were recorded. content inorganic ions, alginate dry weight: fresh weight ratio relatively constant. Mannitol, laminaran polyphenolic compounds their maxima early summer (June/July), when plant was undergoing rapid extension growth. In contrast, protein highest winter spring. It concluded that elongation phase occurred spring not supported by use stored polysaccharide reserves, since amounts present insufficient for this purpose increased during period most
