Neurogenic inflammation and chronic pelvic pain.

摘要: Chronic pelvic pain is a puzzling disease entity. The pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic are not clear and current treatment strategies often successful, leaving patients as well health care providers frustrated. In subgroup with (e.g., interstitial cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome, vulvar vestibulitis, prostatodynia/prostatitis, loin pain/hematuria syndrome) inflammatory changes observed, for which no etiology has been identified. These might be due to neurogenic inflammation. Applying the concept inflammation provides new insights into these syndromes, makes it possible account heterogeneity variability observed in clinical presentation, lead development novel therapies.
