Psychological Distress Mediates the Association between Food Insecurity and Suboptimal Sleep Quality in Latinos with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

摘要: Background: Evidence increasingly indicates that poor sleep quality is a major public health concern. Household food insecurity (HFI) disproportionately affects Latinos and novel risk factor for quality. Psychological distress may be potential mechanism through which HFI Sleep, insecurity, are linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus. Objectives: We examined the relations between HFI, psychological distress, tested whether mediates relation in people with mellitus. Methods: mellitus (n = 121) who completed baseline assessments CALMS-D (Community Health Workers Assisting Manage Stress Diabetes) stress management intervention trial US Food Security Survey, measures of depressive symptoms [Personal Questionnaire Depression Scale (PHQ-8)], anxiety [Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS)-short], [Problem Areas Diabetes (PAID-5)], [Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)]. was operationalized PHQ-8, PROMIS-short, PAID-5 scales. used unadjusted adjusted indirect effect tests bias-corrected bootstrapped 95% CIs on 10,000 samples test both variables mediation. Results: Mean age 61 y, 74% were women, 67% insecure. Experiencing associated greater worse (P < 0.05). Depressive (adjusted R2: 2.22, CI: 1.27, 3.42), 1.70, 0.87, 2.85), 0.60, 0.11, 1.32) each mediated without adjustment age, education, income, marital status, employment status. Conclusions: common potent household stressor suboptimal distress. Efforts improve security decrease yield improved this high-risk population.
