摘要: The paleomagnetism of middle to late Miocene volcanic rocks from regions the western Transverse Ranges suggests that large amounts subsequent clockwise tectonic rotation has occurred. We studied five sites in Santa Monica Mountains, Conejo Hills, and Anacapa Island. East declinations 64° 81° were found, compared expected 0°, inclinations too shallow by up 21° for present latitude. Preliminary data Cruz San Miguel Islands suggest similar but larger rotations. Stratigraphically higher units show least amount rotation, which may indicate about 60° occurred primarily during time. North-pointing directions can be restored rotating northern Channel Mountains counterclockwise a pivot near eastern end range. This restoration also changes paleocurrent Eocene Oligocene north west, is consistent with surrounding regions. Shallow remanent northward movement this block ∼10° since early
