摘要: Policy-makers and practitioners often struggle or fail to define quantify the economic impacts that can be achieved through ecologically sustainable investments in dryland ecosystems. This paper reviews current state of art characterization valuation environmental benefits drought-prone areas Sub-Saharan Africa. Benefit streams from ecosystem services associated with production food, energy water are characterized, as well those supporting regulating hydrological systems. For each value type, approaches examples their application African contexts presented. The review is drawn a series recent methodological discussions, working papers field research reports focusing on locally determined ecosystem-based adaptations under climate extremes. focus challenges faced by researchers tasked developing benefit-cost assessments for adaptive management conservation ecosystems, particularly marginalized dry Recommendations could also interest wider global community development practitioners.
