摘要: Objectives to determine whether irradiation is an independent risk factor for carotid atherosclerosis, and propose guidelines patient follow-up. Design a retrospective case control study. Materials methods two groups of patients with severe artery stenosis (>70%) were compared: 30 post-neck patients, group 100 no history neck irradiation. Disease location severity assessed by duplex. The relationship between atherosclerotic factors, time since disease was examined. Results the average age study 67 years (43–86) compared 69 (46–89) in group. interval from diagnosis 14 (3–53) (median 12.5 years). suffered less diabetes, ischaemic heart disease, peripheral vascular ( p<0.02). There significant differences among factors respect age, gender, smoking, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia. Post-neck had significantly higher prevalence bilateral (p=0.02), rate common lesions (p<0.002). Conclusions should be considered occlusive disease. Preoperative angiographic considered, due frequent involvement artery.
