FRIEND OR FOE: SOCIETAL SHIFTS FROM INTENSE PERSECUTION TO ACTIVE CONSERVATION OF TOP PREDATORS

摘要: SUMMARY.—Friend or foe: Societal shifts from intense persecution to active conservation of top predators. The importance predators in the functioning ecosystems is a well-established ecological paradigm; therefore serious global problem. Here we present case southern European country (Spain) which has moved rapidly widespread and long-term raptors until 1970’s occupying leading place raptor study within Europe today. We argue that such radical change may have contingent component (the rapid intensive urban concentration rural people following economic growth country), as well more deterministic (an role mass media increasing awareness on concentrated population).
