摘要: Water and sediment samples collected from the Gomti River, a tributary of Ganges River system, during postmonsoon season have been analyzed to estimate major elemental chemistry. chemistry shows almost monotonous spatial distribution various chemical species, especially because uniform presence alluvium Dun gravels throughout basin. The river annually transports 0.34×106 tonnes total suspended material (TSM) 3.0×106 dissolved solids (TDS), 69 percent which is accounted for by bicarbonate ions only. Samples downstream city Lucknow show influence anthropogenic loadings considerable distance in water. Na+, Cl−, SO4 2− concentrations build up downstream. bed dominated Si (36 percent), reflecting high percentage detrital quartz, makes about 74 mineralogy sediments Gomti. average Kjeldahl nitrogen concentration (234 μg/g) indicates indirectly amount organic matter sediments. Hg has found be higher (average 904 ppb) than background value. are well sorted, very finely skewed, extremely leptokurtic, indicating low energy condition flow River. loads small or nonexistent on perhaps water discharge (1.57 percent) quite low.
