摘要: Volcanic eruptions produce health changes in animals that may be associated with emitted gases and deposited ashes. We evaluated whether the Puyehue–Cordon Caulle volcanic eruption 2011 produced threatened Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) living area most affected by eruption, northwestern Patagonia. studied clinical biochemical parameters of condors examined before after eruption. also concentrations different metals metalloids blood individuals sampled The common abnormality eruptive process was irritating pharyngitis. In albumin, calcium, carotenoids, total proteins decreased to levels under reference values reported for this species. found chemical elements these such as arsenic cadmium, potential impacts. Thus, Condors ways eruption; remaining appears have been costly. However, comparison other animal species, impacts were not strong mainly related food shortages due decrease availability livestock carcasses linked This suggests dealt relatively well massive event. Future research is needed evaluate if we reduce survival cost inhabiting areas has any ecological or evolutionary influence on condor's life history.
