摘要: Citizen science is an increasingly valuable tool for both scientists and educators. For researchers, citizen a means of more quickly investigating questions which would otherwise be time-consuming costly to study. educators, offers engage students in actual research improve learning outcomes. One the biggest challenges projects recruitment, represent potential solution this issue. Since most are usually designed with goals mind, many lack necessary educator materials successful integration formal education (FSE) setting. In ideal world, researchers educators build together; however, time, resources, networks create these early on life project. resource-poor projects, we propose intermediate entry point recruiting from educational setting: community service or requirements (CSSLRs). Many schools require participate activities order graduate. Although merits making volunteer contributions mandatory subject much debate, requirement still exists creating need quality opportunities. With help fulfilling CSSLR, investigated opportunities created by CSSLRs San Diego county (where there no state-mandated CSSLRs), compared other known locations municipally-set state-set CSSLRs, examined explicitly-stated motivations having explored how projects--even virtual ones, like Mark2Cure-- might meet needs CSSLRs.
