摘要: The direct scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) imaging of the isolated discandium fullerenes (Sc[sub 2] C[sub 84]) on silicon clean surfaces in an ultrahigh-vacuum environment has been reported for first time. STM images reveal nearly spherical Sc[sub 84] fullerenes, spaced 11.7 A apart and stacked close-packed arrays at room temperature. results present evidence that scandium atoms are trapped inside cage. 21 refs., 4 figs.
