Food and feeding ecology of the rock fowl Picatthartes oreas in Old Oyo National Park, Nigeria

摘要: The rock fowl is an endangered species and its food feeding ecology was studied in the forest zone of Old Oyo National Park, Nigeria. methods used were direct observation, fragmentation analysis faecal crop content samples collected during both wet dry seasons. results showed that feed on a wide range insects, fruits flower buds. In season, animal resources represented 54 62% adult chick diet, respectively, whereas about 60% diets. There significant difference (P < 0.05) composition birds between also preference adults chicks. Food sharing not common, although it observed cockerels hens. search selection indices directly related to season availability. It concluded scarcity may be serious contributory factor threat fowl.
