摘要: Abstract This report summarizes the experience with fourteen cases of herpes zoster encephalitis. The pathology is discussed on basis reports in literature. It has been noted that pathologic changes usually are nature a disseminated encephalomyelitis, lymphocytic infiltration and partial demyelination. clinical manifestations described. In majority picture reflected an acute meningoencephalitic insult, fever, change sensorium signs meningeal irritation. course was short, recovery one to three weeks. spinal fluid clear, increase cells, predominantly lymphocytes. An protein content slightly more than half cases. sugar generally normal cultures were sterile. Weak first zone colloidal gold curves obtained two Electroencephaograms cases, which tracings abnormal. No deaths occurred this series during phase disease. follow-up study nine patients, six escaped without neurologic residua showed sequelae. latter patients abnormal electroencephalograms early Of special interest occurrence varicelliform eruption four patients. relationship between varicella discussed. Treatment main symptomatic. use hormonal therapy merits further investigation.
