摘要: Background As the availability of mental hospital beds has fallen, so number people in prison risen. Aims To review current policy trends British forensic psychiatry and put them an international context. Method Literature on prevalence rates psychiatric disorder prisons jails been examined for USA, England & Wales New Zealand. Results All studies show a high jails. Authors USA suggest that are replacing hospitals. In psychosis reported as 4-10% remanded prisoners 2-7% sentenced prisoners. Substance misuse among is major problem. Prison preferred place disposal large numbers mentally disordered people. Does this matter? Why should be case? Is cheapest option? Politicians considering new powers to direct more into institutions (presumably prisons) grounds public protection. Conclusions We need information about attitudes their formation. inter-professional dialogue best arrangements with disorders, inter-disciplinary education.
