摘要: The effectiveness of ticarcillin (one 6 g dose at the start operation) and cephalothin (three 2 doses given 4 hour intervals from as prophylactic antibiotics in operations on colon, stomach, small bowel or obstructed biliary tract was determined a prospective, randomized, blind study 190 patients. Data 152 patients forming definitive revealed significant reduction rate wound peritoneal infections with use (3.4 percent) (5.3 over that placebo (27.8 percent). Cultures showed no evidence antibiotic resistance contaminant organisms who later developed infections. Both regimens offered excellent protection against infection after gastrointestinal operations; neither produced untoward side effects. very short duration treatment, particularly ticarcillin, conferred additional benefits low cost, simplicity drug administration, negligible risk emergence resistant bacterial strains.
