摘要: In order to determine whether the geographical distribution of autoimmune thyroid disease in Britain is influenced by pattern iodine intake, prevalence subclinical (detectable antithyroid antibodies biochemically euthyroid individuals) has been measured female blood donors from seven towns England and Wales previously characterised terms past present intake. Thyroglobulin antibody peroxidase were highly sensitive assays which are based on direct interaction between radiolabelled antigen. Excluding cases overt (biochemically hypo- or hyperthyroid with antibodies), overall prevalences sera 698 17.8% for thyroglobulin antibody. Both found 12.3% donors. contrast, 41 43%, respectively, 117 relatives 18 probands disease, but highest observed groups women patients Graves' (N = 39) Hashimoto's (51, 97% antibody, 72 respectively). Antibody increased age rising 10.6% at 18-24 30.3% 55-64 14.9% 24.2% Geographical differences both not significant did correlate either previous goitre current intake.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
