摘要: Male tree lizards (Urosaurus ornatus) abandon their territories following the removal of potential mates. Departure time averages 25 days but varies from 1 to 7 weeks. We show that most variation (r 2=0.78) in departure males can be accounted for by number females removed male and adjacent trees. Males occupying higher quality (more mates) have short times, whereas on poorer (fewer fameles) stay longer after female removal. hypothesize inverse relationship between is a consequence male's previous expectation envountering prospective In addition, experimental introduction non-resident into resident revealed inability intruder become established occupied territories.
