Assessing the Impacts of Conservation and Commercial Forestry on Livelihoods in Northern Republic of Congo

摘要: Researchers often attempt to understand the social impacts of conservation interventions in isolation broader socioeconomic, political and institutional change. However it is important variety forces structuring livelihood impacts, identify how different groups respond adapt changes. This article uses a case study from northern Republic Congo, where rural livelihoods are shaped by combination commercial forestry activities, differential these activities on two principal groups, Aka hunter-gatherers Kaka Bondongo farmer-fishers. The results indicate that change most striking conservation-forestry villages compared control villages, this evident among Aka. Although driver change, enforcement regulations reduces households' access natural capital alters relations. In context were exacerbated due dramatic transformation space into which people either economically displaced or chose move to. Conservation similar contexts should involve project design initiate context-specific assessment monitoring prior during intervention.
