Attitudes Towards Forest Elephant Conservation Around a Protected Area in Northern Congo

摘要: An assessment of local attitudes towards conservation can guide wildlife managers in the effective application measurements to improve these perceptions. Here we conducted a quantitative questionnaire survey around protected area northern Congo surveying 314 households living four villages Nouabale-Ndoki National Park. We investigated impact benefits project (led by an international non-governmental organisation), experience with human-elephant conflict and respondents' socio-economic profile on people's forest elephant conservation. Using multivariate analysis, found overall positive more answers village where is based. Furthermore, people employed stated compared logging company employees famers, natural resource users conducting other jobs. Experience human negatively impacted Socio-economic variables, such as ethnic group, education level or salary category had relatively little responses. Qualitative statements largely supported results. discuss our results light limits attitude surveys suggest further investigations identify activities needed foster for all Park partnership company.
